The Long Family: Certificate of Bravery!

Sweet little Logan was awarded a certificate of Bravery today for his extraordinary courage (or at least thats what the paper said). Logan did so good with his surgery this morning. We had to be at the surgery center at 6:30am....what a day to have to be somewhere at that time of day, huh! We made it safely and Logan did great. We started in the pre op room with Logan getting some silly juice and then the doctor came and took him away. It was a really weird feeling to have someone just come and carry your baby away like that. Levi and I waited in the waiting room for about 45 minutes and then the doc. came and updated us on the surgery. He said everything went well. Logan had all kinds of gunk in his ears so we def. made the right choice in putting in the tubes. He also determined that Logan does indeed have a Submoucousal Cleft Pallet. Basically, you have a cleft to the hard and soft pallet of your mouth. The hard is the cases you see where babies have cleft lips, the soft is a case like Logan, where it is hidden until later in life (closer to when they begin to speak). We will have to watch Logan's speech and at some point have him observed by a speech pathologist to determine if it is bad enough to have it repaired. The doc. did not seem to think it was but is def. the cause of all the ear infections and not having that protective barrier keeping all the fluid out of his ears. Also, due to this he only was able to remove the outer most anoids and not the center ones as originally planned. Once we walked into recovery Logan almost jumped out of the ladys arms when he saw us. He didnt cry or anything, was just glad that mommy and daddy were there. I sat and rocked him and we gave him some water. He drank the entire cup in one drink (first drink since 8pm last night). We then gave him a popsicle and he liked that until the thought the nurse was going to take it from him. The pictures speak for themselves on that!
